MEET ADAM LYONS

Adam Lyons, LCSW — Psychotherapist & ADHD Specialist

With over 15 years of experience in therapy and ADHD coaching, I bring a compassionate and dynamic approach to my practice. Experiences leading adventure and social/emotional learning programs, seeing participants learn/grow, and step out of their comfort zone, is what pushed me to become a therapist. Witnessing firsthand the transformative power of stepping beyond comfort zones, I was inspired to pursue therapy as a means to help people facilitate personal growth and resilience.

My practice is rooted in a familial tradition of service & supporting others. I believe therapy is a journey of discovery and adaptation. My clinical framework is shaped by the belief that we learn who we are through our experiences, and therapy serves as a pivotal tool for both learning and unlearning. Whether guiding clients through new challenges or helping them shed old patterns, I aim to foster a supportive environment where growth and self-discovery can thrive.

Maybe you would like to hear a bit about my personal journey because it's deeply connected to the work I do with young people. Growing up with ADHD and dyslexia, I faced daily challenges that shaped my understanding of what it's like to struggle with these conditions. Navigating school, work, and life with these differences wasn't always easy, but it taught me a lot about resilience and finding strategies that work. These experiences have been incredibly motivating for me.

They've given me a unique perspective and a deep empathy for others. We all have struggles we deal with that may or not always be apparent to the outside world. I know firsthand how frustrating and isolating it can feel, and that's why I'm so passionate about helping others who face these struggles.

GROWTH-FOCUSED

I believe that therapy is a powerful tool for personal development and transformation. By exploring and understanding your experiences, we uncover opportunities for growth and learning. Together, we’ll focus on developing new skills and perspectives that empower you to navigate lifes challenges with greater confidence and resilience.

JUDGEMENT-FREE

Creating a judgment-free space is essential to fostering trust and openness in therapy. I am committed to providing a supportive environment where you can express yourself freely without fear of criticism. This means approaching each session with empathy and understanding, ensuring that you feel safe to explore your thoughts and feelings.

MY APPROACH

What You Can Expect

All potential clients have a free consultation. This is your opportunity to share what you are struggling with and your goals for treatment, and ask any questions you need to determine if Adam is a good fit for you.

After some initial paperwork, the first appointment is a 60-minute assessment. It focuses on developing a comprehensive assessment and clarifying your goals for treatment. From there, you and Adam will meet together 45 minutes a week for at least two months.

You can expect your treatment to last as long as you have goals you want to work on. For some, treatment can be several months, for others, treatment may last longer. Good Mental Health is a journey that takes lifelong attention, with treatment starting and pausing many times over the years.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, Adam accepts most major health insurance plans, including Aetna, Optum, United Health, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Northwell Direct, and many others. However, accepted insurance plans can vary state by state, so please inquire about your specific plan.
Yes, private pay rates are comparable to other providers in this space and are discussed during your initial consultation. Statements of services can be provided to all clients wishing to submit out-of-network claims for reimbursement for plans not covered. A sliding scale rate can be offered based on your income for those who qualify. A Good Faith Estimate can be provided at the client's request.
I practice person-centered integrative therapy that draws on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectal Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, and Psychodynamic therapy. There is no one “correct” type of therapy. The therapeutic approach should be tailored to the individual client and their needs. I believe all therapy is about helping clients understand their challenges and learn how best to navigate them moving forward.
Therapy focuses on exploring past and present patterns and experiences to heal emotional pain, trauma, mental health challenges, and dysfunction. Coaching focuses on clients' understanding of current patterns and on learning the skills necessary to achieve future goals and develop healthier, more consistent patterns.
All clients will receive trauma-informed and affirming care, focusing on exploring and understanding the challenges they face while learning new skills to better cope with and navigate these experiences.

All clients will have a free 15-minute initial consultation call to answer questions and determine if we might be a good fit.

For mental health therapy, Adam meets with clients weekly for at least the first two months.

For ADHD & Executive Functioning Coaching, Adam and the client determine the frequency of the meetings based on the identified goals.
